Xeco Wines

I was commissioned by the Hoxby collective to produce a series of Character designs to feature on the branding and bottles for drinks brand Xeco Wines.

Xeco is an ambitious, young drinks label seeking to dispel the myth that sherry is a sweet drink consumed at christmas by grannies or fit only to be poured over a trifle and the illustrations were drawn to reflect this mission statement, traditional but with some modern personality.

This suite of paired characters, one English, One Spanish is a nod to ‘The Great British Barter’ where King
Alfonso X of Spain and Henry I of England initiated a trade of Spanish wine for English wool, a relationship that has persisted to this day.
